Deflower’d

Soooo…

Posted in australian idol, celeb, television by deflowerd on November 15, 2008

I’ve clearly lost interest in Australian Idol. No more recaps, but maybe I’ll do a final summarative post after the finale. All the weirdos and hotties and freaks are gone, and we’re left with a few guys whose personality has been totally stripped from them over the course of the comp and I just can’t be bothered with it anymore.

Having said that, my bothered-ness has been shifted to greener pastures. Namely, Survivor Gabon, ANTM 11 and Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

Survivor Gabon has turned out to be fantastically interesting, and holds up well when compared to last season (which was blindside-riffic and pretty damn entertaining). The onion alliance looked like it was going to hold strong, but twists and turns of the game kept things interesting. There are some great characters, from Randy the asshole to Crystal the… I dont even know how to label her, to Kenny the gamer, to Sugar the innocent yet potentially game-winning pinup model. I’ve enjoyed the shenanigans so far, although I was sad to see Ace go so early. And so many fake elephants!

ANTM has been… well, fairly typical. The good models get sent home due to technicalities, and the Covergirl and Seventeen-worthy, hyper-commercial girls are kept around. Those with issues make it to around final 5 but are sent packing soon after, and the sweet, all-american girl eventually rises to the top thanks to continued psychological warfare against and for all parties. Tyra gets more and more insane with every cycle. Seriously, she’s like Oprah with an inferiority complex. She has to consistently reinforce and shore up her ego, which is like a patched but huge zeppelin. And if history has taught us anything, it’s taught us this; zeppelins eventually go down in a blaze of horrific proportions. And I can’t fucking wait.

Never Mind The Buzzcocks has lost a couple of things. Firstly, Simon’s hair. Secondof-ly, Bill Bailey. And it’s success in this 22nd season has relied on the quality of the guest captains. Stephen Fry and Mark Ronson were entertaining and different, but a few – such as the less well known British comedians – have fallen a bit flat. Russell Brand did an episode but it hasn’t yet been aired, likely due to his whole, “quitting the BBC” thing*. The show remains a must-watch for me, but the quality has dropped significantly from last season. Fingers crossed for a high quality permanent new team captain, or the return of Bill.

*Speaking of which: Fuck! His radio show was brilliant, and I listened with glee, fear, and amusement every week. I missed Matt Morgan, but his various co-hosts (Noel Fielding, Simon Amstell, Noel Gallagher, Jonathon Ross) were great and his irreverent interview style was a breath of fresh air. Bloody media bloody crucifying him! Anyway, if you – like me – miss his show, I recommend podcasting the Australian radio duo Hamish & Andy‘s show, via iTunes. It’s great. Seriously.

Australian Idol Recrap (Michael Jackson results)

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on November 3, 2008

Umm so Teale, Mark and Chrislyn are the bottom three. There are some funny callers (love Ricki-Lee’s eyeshadow? kay…) and some technical difficulties (as usual). Andrew drags an audience member up to sit next to Teale. Lucky girl. She gets on tv. Wish I could get on tv…
My personal resentment aside, um, Pink is on soon. Damn, that totally didn’t work. Pink isn’t as horrendous as many other people in the world, it must be said. Congratulations to Pink.

Anyway, we’re now just moments away from learning who is going home.

Ugh, Teale is safe. I think Chrislyn is going home. Tonight… it ends… for one of you… based on the votes… it’s time to go… Chrislyn. Hamilton. Aww. She was nice. Bye Chris! Get ready, ’cause here you go.

Australian Idol Recrap (Michael Jackson night)

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on November 2, 2008

Ow! Michael Jackson night! This should be good. He has an incredible back catalogue, so song choice will be a big factor. We open the night with a group rendition of ‘Don’t Stop Til’ You Get Enough’, one of my favourite MJ songs. So funky. So fresh. Teale sings his bit, and sounds out of place and crappy, and I suddenly have hope that he’ll be eliminated this week. Jacko is too cool for Teale. Even Luke sounds better than him! I may be dancing in my seat.

Australian Idol Recrap (Rolling Stones results)

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on October 27, 2008

Hellooooo happy flower people, and welcome to the results show for Oz Idol’s Rolling Stones night. It was a night full of weirdness and good songs and goodness and weird songs. I’m a fairly hugemongous Rolling Stones fan, which may have played into my general disgust at the whole night. Disgust!

Australian Idol Recrap (Motown & results) and the ARIAs: A Review

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on October 20, 2008

Well well well. I know this is later than usual, but hey; suck it. At least I get off my (metaphorical) arse and write a meaningless post about a reality television show every now and then – what do you do? Huh? Oh, you have a legitimate job? Oh, I see.

Australian Idol Recap (Rock night)

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on October 12, 2008

So, last week we lost the amazing Madam Parker. This week we’re faced with the prospect of a damn good sock-rocking. Will the contestants rock our socks off, or will they remain firmly upon our sweaty Sunday feet? All hail The Rock. The night starts off a little rocky, with the audience mics (or the fake audience sounds) fading in and out during the opening credits.

Australian Idol Recap (ABBA Night)

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on October 5, 2008

I’m not a huge fan of ABBA. They’re silly and fun, but I really don’t like the fact that we’ve got a whole night devoted to them. What about a Beatles night, a Motown night, a 70s night? All of those would be better than an ABBA night, for jeez sakes.

Australian Idol Recap (Aussie Hits night Results)

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on September 29, 2008

Eeep I missed the start! Madam Parker is singing ‘Hook Me Up’, so I assume she’s in the bottom three. Oh what! I missed the other two too; Tom Williams and Teale JacamalenkoYouBeauty!

Australan Idol Recap (Aussie Hits Night)

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on September 28, 2008

I’m back, baby, I’m back! I’m interrupting an essay on The Tempest to write this, so you better appreciate it.

We kick off Aussie Hits night with a little intro for Darren Hayes, former member of Savage Garden and current member of Darren Hayes: The One Man Solo Experience. He’s a diva with disco fever.  What more can I say? He mentored the singers during the week and he’ll be guest-judging tonight. Wee.

Australian Idol Recap (Ooops)

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on September 24, 2008

For any regular readers (if there are any…?), I must apologise for not recapping the latest week of Oz Idol. I was lying on the couch and my laptop was alll the way over there and… well… I got nothin’. Highlights: Brooke got eliminated, Chrislyn was awesome, Brooke got eliminated, Tom cried, Brooke got eliminated, Brooke got eliminated.

I’ve got a pile of university assignments to attend to so I can’t promise I’ll be recapping next week, but I’ll try. Again, I don’t even know how many people actually care, so I can’t promise anything. Am I talking to myself? This is freaking me out.

Australian Idol Recap (Top 12 Week One results)

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on September 15, 2008

Jimbob begins by telling us there’ll be no more “after the break stuff”. Aw, the death of a tradition. Andy has the bottom 3 on cards in his pocket. Straight to business; who are they?

Australian Idol Recap (Top 12 week one)

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on September 14, 2008

Wow. The first Top 12 night. This is it, y’all. No more auditions, finals and wildcards. Australian Idol is here. James and Andrew defy physics, one walking onto stage and the other jogging yet both arriving at the same time. The top 12 join them on stage, and holy shit this is a weird-ass final group. I can’t wait to see who delivers – will my not-so-secret favourite Madam continue to perform amazingly? Will Jonny Taylor continue to be slightly awkward and scare all the teen girls in the audience? Will I even care? All that and more; now!

Australian Idol Recap (Wildcard Results)

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on September 8, 2008

Heyyy peeps. It’s Wildcard time. Draw Four! We recap last night’s performances and they’re still just as unimpressive as they were a day ago. Sophie really annoys me. She has massive audience support though (or maybe that was for Andrew G…).

Australian Idol Recap (Wildcard)

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on September 7, 2008

Sooo I didn’t get to sit and watch this properly because it’s Father’s Day and I was hanging out with my father. My opinions of the contestants still stand; love Roshani and Nicole, dislike Sophie, Jonny, James etc. Unsure why Fat Brooke got a second chance. Unsure why Voice-Lost Brooke didn’t. Luke Dinkens is a cracker, but not the greatest singer, although I’d rather him through instead of heaaaaps of the others. Freaky Fringe has the strongest image, which is why she got a chance but I really don’t think she’s anything special.

On the off-chance that any of the contestants read this; it’s not personal. You all seem like great people, so don’t take this in a negative way – after all, who am I to give my opinion on reality tv contestants? I can’t sing for shiz. So if any contestants read this, feel free to drop me a comment like Hayley Corrigan from Adelaide did.

I’ll blog tomorrow night’s results episode in a more complete and proper manner. Seeya then!

Australian Idol Recap (Semi-Final 3)

Posted in australian idol, australian television, music by deflowerd on September 3, 2008

Oh god, I can’t wait until I only have to do this once or twice a week. Last night was pretty interesting; we had a lost voice, a sugary sweet quarter boyband, and a sheep shearer. We kick off this evening with the revelation of the next 2 contestants through to the top 12.
